General Directorate of Customs

The main tasks of the General Directorate of Customs include providing protection to the local community, increasing revenues and facilitating foreign trade by reducing the security risks arising from travel and international trade. The Directorate’s tasks also include identifying and implementing the customs’ strategy of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to enhancing the emirate’s ability to compete in foreign trade and collecting customs duties and revenues. The Directorate facilitates the movement of goods and people through the customs ports by implementing international standards and best practices.


The General Directorate of Customs is headed by H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, who is assisted by sectional and divisional directors.

The General Directorate of Customs consists of the following Directorates:
 
  • Admin Affairs
  • Customs Support & Assistance Directorate
  • Abu Dhabi Operations’ Directorate
  • Al Ain Operations’ Directorate
  • Western Region Operations’ Directorate
Admin Affairs

The Customs Affairs Division ensures the adherence of all concerned parties to Abu Dhabi Emirate’s laws and regulations related to Customs practice, the Unified Customs Law for GCC Countries and the World Customs Organization.

The division works to develop and implement the customs policies and procedures and internal restrictions including inspecting and supervising customs sites to ensure compliance with the regulations. It also takes the appropriate corrective actions while keeping its full compliance with the requirements of the General Directorate of Customs.

The Directorate maintains full documentation of all transactions that help in preparing periodic reports that assist in providing advice and consultation; evaluation of imports and exports and finally to enhance revenues of Abu Dhabi.

Customs Support & Assistance Directorate
 
The main tasks of the Customs Support Division include providing the General Directorate of Customs and the directors of the customs centers with professional consultation and follow-up for preparation of strategic plans, development of organizational structure and management of corporate performance. The division develops and coordinates short-, medium- and long-term action plans for all DoF Directorates; helping to unify DoF plans as a whole. It also develops the performance indicators and measurement reference while evaluating the approved plans.

Abu Dhabi Operations’ Directorate

The main tasks of Abu Dhabi Operations’ Division include developing and implementing strategic plans of the General Directorate of Customs in Abu Dhabi, facilitating trade movement while maximizing revenues and detecting and reducing illegal activities. The administration effectively and efficiently manages the emirate’s customs activities while developing and reporting on the production capacity of the General Directorate of Customs to raise performance levels and upgrade customs work on a continuous basis. The administration also ensures compliance with the Unified Customs Law for GCC countries, the laws of World Customs Organization, the World Trade Organization, treaties and other relevant international conventions.

The Abu Dhabi Operations’ Division consists of the following sections:

Inspection Section
Revenues & Collection Section
Administrative Affairs Section

Al Ain Operations’ Directorate

The main tasks of Al Ain Operations’ Division include developing and implementing strategic plans of the General Directorate of Customs in Al Ain, facilitating trade movement while maximizing revenues and detecting and reducing illegal activities. The department effectively and efficiently manages the customs activities in Al Ain while developing and reporting on the production capacity of the General Directorate of Customs to raise performance levels and upgrade customs work on a continuous basis. The administration also ensures compliance with the Unified Customs Law for GCC countries, the laws of World Customs Organization, the World Trade Organization, treaties and other relevant international conventions.

The Western Region Operations’ Directorate

The main tasks of the Western Region Operations’ Department include developing and implementing strategic plans of the General Directorate of Customs in the Western Region, facilitating trade movement while maximizing revenues and detecting and reducing illegal activities. The administration effectively and efficiently manages customs activities of the Western Region while developing and reporting on the production capacity of the General Directorate of Customs to raise performance levels and upgrade customs work on a continuous basis.
